How We Work

Our 10-Step Development Process

Over the years we’ve refined our design process to be simple, straightforward and effective. We obtain the best results by collaborating with our clients and applying our design skills to develop the projects they desire.

The development process is a back-and-forth routine between you and your designer. The designer creates elements for the website, seeks your feedback, make changes and, once approved, posts the elements on the website.

hands1. We Agree on The Time Line and Budget

We make sure we know your budget and time line before we begin your project. It’s also important to determine who will maintain the site after it is complete. This information is all written into the contract we create.

2. We Help You Choose and Secure a Domain Name

We can help you with this step by doing a WHOIS search on domain registrar sites such as godaddy.com and networksolutions.com. Pick a name that is short, easy to remember, easy to spell and is associated with your brand (Note: many domain names are already taken so you may have to settle for a less-than-perfect name). If you already have a domain name, it can be used with the new website that’s being created and we’ll be happy to point it there after the website is completed.

sitemp3. We Set Up Web Hosting for You

We can provide you with hosting, use your existing hosting account, or host your website in an imaginary server in the clouds. This last method is quite inexpensive but leaves something to be desired when it comes to website traffic. More details about our hosting plans can be found in the web hosting section of our site.

4. We Help You Create a Site Map

A site map defines how many pages will be on the site, what they will be named and to where they will link.

5. We Listen to Your Feedback

We will listen to your feedback and make the appropriate changes for the website. We make sure that the mockup (layout of what your web page will look like) represents your company’s image, brand and purpose. From the chosen layout, you can make a certain amount of changes before signing off on the finished design.

6. We Put Your Content on the Website

content1If you don’t have all the images you need for your website, we can add a few from our stock photo collection. Clients generally provide us with the following:

  • Images. Provide us with any images or graphics you would like to use in your site, most importantly, your company logo. Check with us to see in what format and at what resolution we want these images.
  • Text. Your site will be populated with the text you provide regarding your company’s mission, descriptions of products and services, and any and all other information you would like to have on your web site.
  • Keywords. These will be used for the Search Engine Optimization of the website. We’ll have our SEO expert talk to you about what should be done to make your site easier for customers to find.
  • Content for Animations, Videos, Music, Etc. If you are creating a multimedia site, we will need your content so we can make any necessary edits to it and place it on the website.

approve7. You Approve the Website Content

Once the text, images and media have been placed on the site, you’ll need to approve them. We’ll listen to your suggestions and make the necessary changes.

8. You Approve the Functionality

After the content has been placed on the site, the functionality will be created. This includes aspects of the site such as the contact form, database, e-commerce, calendar, etc.

9. We Launch the Finished Site

It’s important to double-check that everything is just right before the site launches, so we do a thorough review of the website before making it live for the public.

fishing10. Market Your Web Site and Reel in the Cash!

Online marketing can be accomplished with Search Engine Optimization and online text and display ads such as Google AdSense.  E-mail newsletters and social media are also a great way to market your site, along with the good old word-of-mouth method.  (Note: marketing is usually an additional cost over and above website design. Please see our online marketing section to learn more).

Assuming the project has gone according to plan and you are happy with the results, you now have a new website that is helping to promote your brand and sell your products and services. We will continue to be available for site maintenance, though you may do some maintenance, such as text and image updates, yourself using a Content Management System or software such as Dreamweaver or Contribute.
